A major project from the 2015 facilities improvement bond is the Linwood Elementary replacement. Originally built in 1957, Linwood is slated to become one of the district’s largest elementary schools at 69,300 square feet.
New two-story school will be on the current school playground, with each classroom having outside views and abundant natural lighting. The old Linwood will be removed and a new playground created on the site of the current school. Students and staff will remain on site during construction of the new school, like the process used during the Westview Elementary replacement project.
Due to projected enrollment growth and K-3 class size reduction requirements, the new Linwood will accommodate 625 students. The school will have a separate cafeteria and gym, as well as space for music, art, and special programs. There will also be an outdoor courtyard for teaching and learning.
The project will be bid in winter of 2018. Construction is scheduled to start in the spring of 2018, with the new school opening in the fall of 2019.
